Don’t Vacation Away Your HARD WORK

OK, its vacation time. You don’t have to ruin all the hard work you have put in at the gym and at the grocery store.

Tell me if you have heard this conversation before, or maybe you have said this. “Yea, I have been doing good, getting in shape for the summer, eating better but when I go on vacation, I am going to eat what I want. “

Or

“Its to hard to eat good on vacation.”

I am here to tell you that, it does not have to be like that.
Take 2 min and read these tips on how to make your vacation a little bit more enjoyable from a health standpoint, so that you are not ridden with guilt when you get back to the house after 7 days of gluttony.

If you really don’t care anything about making your life healthier when you are on vacation, you can stop reading now and start planning the 7 day feast of insulin spikes and near diabetic commas.

These things are pretty basic and easy to remember.

1. SET A PLAN AT THE START OF THE WEEK
Get with the family and figure out what you are eating what night and what you are eating for lunch each day. If you are one of those families who has a money tree in the back yard that you harvest rt before you leave town and you go out every night, then set a plan for breakfast and lunch and stick with it

2. EAT MEALS
Don’t GRAZE, there is a reason Cows are gigantic… they graze all day long. They don’t sit down and eat. When you graze you are never satisfied, this is as much of a mental thing as it is physical. When you sit down and have a meal you mentally know that it is time to stop eating. When you graze, you never come to the end of the road. You just keep going and going. The next thing you know you’ve eaten 2500 calories between cookies, chicken salad, leftover pancakes and fruit roll ups.

3. DRINK WATER.
Drink about 100-120 ounces of water a day. This does a couple of things. It makes you feel fuller longer and in turn keeps you from eating as much and it also helps all of the bodies systems run more efficiently.

4. GET UP AND EXERCISE
DO something! You don’t have to “Train” 2 hours a day but it would help to break a sweat for 30-45 min a day. Ever notice when you work out ,you don’t have as much of a problem eating good? When you workout, one of the chemicals your brain releases is dopamine. Dopamine makes you feel good which prevents you from seeking out that quart of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream that you think will solve world peace. When that dopamine is not released (i.e. not working out) you seek other things to fulfill that feeling and your turn to Blue Bell.

5. LIMIT YOUR BOOZE
Alcohol is a foreign substance to your body, it takes the fastest route out, which in turn leaves you dehydrated, which then in turn make you not feel as well which then leads your to not wanting to do anything active which then leads me back to reason # 4.

6. DON’T FINISH YOUR KIDS PLATES
I know, I know its wasting food, and you hate to throw it away. If you feel that strongly about it put it in the fridge and eat it tomorrow. This is a common thing for people who are at least somewhat financially conscious.
